Relatada por Kate Nelligan y dirigida por Howard Hall, el célebre realizador de documentales sobre la vida marina, ésta es una vívida incursión a los bosques de algas gigantes que están cerca de las costas de las Channel Islands en California. En las profundidades se filmó en formato IMAX y se exhibió en salas IMAX en todo el mundo. Esta versión de video está masterizada digitalmente a partir de material fílmico de 70mm con componentes de sonido mezclados y masterizados especialmente para producir una banda de sonido de la mejor calidad en Dolby Surround.
