Games included in release 0.9.3 Boswars Boswars is a futuristic real time strategy game (RTS). In a RTS game, the player has to combat his enemies while developing his war economy. Everything runs in real-time, as opposed to turn-based games where the player always has to wait for his turn. The trick is to balance the effort put into building his economy and building an army to defend and attack the enemies.
Bos Wars has a dynamic rate based economy. Energy is produced by power plants and magma gets pumped from hot spots. Buildings and mobile units are also built at a continuous rate. Control of larger parts of the map creates the potential to increase your economy throughput. Holding key points like roads and passages allow for different strategies.

BzFLag BzFlag is a free online multiplayer cross-platform open source 3D tank battle game. The name originates from "Battle Zone capture the Flag".
It's one of the most popular games ever on Silicon Graphics machines and continues to be developed and improved to this day. It's one of the most popular open source games ever. For more information, check out some of the reviews.

Glest Glest is a real time strategy game which is freely available. The game is settled in an ancient world, where technological and magic factions compete with each other.
The player can take part in the game as either party and play against up to three opponents. Selection of terrains and tilesets and the grouping of different teams enable you to set up a variety of scenarios. As known from other rts games, you start at a home site with a few basic units. They are used to gather first resources (harvest lumber, mine ore) or create new buildings. Also few combat units are initially provided, to defend the village or scout the area. While proceeding an increasing number of different units becomes awailable and new types of buildings can be constructed.

The challenge of this game is to have eye on your resources, to defend your base against opponent encroachments and build up a force to defeat your enemies at the same time. Therefor different types of ground units and air units are available. Featuring advanced graphics and skillfully designed units and terrains glest does not need to hide from commercial games. Glest offers a single player mode so far, while multiplayer support is planned and will be added as soon as possible.

Nexuiz Nexuiz is a completely free 3D first-person shooter game. It uses DarkPlaces wich is a highly modified version of the well known Quake engine.
It is based on quick and hard battles with well balanced waepons which made the FPS genre that successful. You can fight online or against bots with currently 9 weapons on 24 nice designed maps in a futuristic style.
It has lot's of graphical effects like coronas, bloom, dynamic lighting, shaders and HDR rendering to offer that may be configured in order to get the best results out of your high-end hardware.
Although Nexuiz's focus on multiplayer gaming it offers a singleplayer campaign for lonely nights when your ISP seems to take a break again. ;-)

Openarena Openarena's gameplay is the exact same as Quake III Arena - score frags to win the game using a balanced set of weapons each designed for different situations. Gameplay modes exist such as deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tournament, and Capture The Flag (all modes also in the original game).

Sauerbraten Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features and eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.

Savage Savage is a fantasy/science fiction computer game that combines aspects of Real-time strategy and First-person shooter into one game. The producers of the game define it as a 'Real Time Strategy Shooter', or 'RTSS'. It takes place in the far future when man has (after an apocalypse) rebuilt society, but is threatened by intelligent beasts.

Teeworlds Teeworlds is a fast-paced sidescrolling multiplayer-only shoot 'em up computer game. The game features cartoon-themed graphics and physics, and relies heavily on classic shooter weaponry and gameplay. The controls are heavily inspired by the FPS genre of computer games.

Thunder and Lightning Thunder and Lightning is a futuristic action flight simulator and realtime strategy game that takes place in a large 3D environment. Jump into the pilot seat of your Lightning aircraft and fight against Thunder tanks in a fierce battle for control of the island!

Tremulous Tremulous started like World of Padman as a Q3 modification, and got standalone when ID-Software published the Q3's code under GPL. It's about the war between Aliens and Humans (as known from Alien vs. Predator). Thus when you join a game, you have to choose whether to join the alien fraction or to save the humans from beeing defeated. But it is much more than just a Shooter, you have to build and improve your base to prevent the enemy from overrunning your team. Additionally there is a cleverly worked out leveling system, so the more experience you have, the better weapons you get.

Vegastrike Vegastrike aims to insert players into a large, dynamic universe with diverse factions of varying disposition to the player and to each other, and an economy model where trade, combat and exploration are all profitable. Financial gains allow the player to buy upgrades and/or better vehicles, thus enabling him/her to advance into more dangerous and profitable missions. The player can have varying levels of relations with factions. Negative relations can form if the player kills some of a given faction’s ships. Positive relations can be formed if the player destroys ships that are part of an enemy to a given faction. Players can either buy and sell cargo, or accept missions from the Mission Computer, as well as talking to people in the local bar at the space station/planet. In the tradition of some precursor games, individuals of significant plot importance are often found in bars.

Warsow Warsow - Since eSports is a common part in nowadays spare time activities, an international team of developers and artists is working on the warsow game. Warsow is an eSports oriented first person shooter (FPS), focusing in fast paced gameplay, movement and trick jumps.

The hardware requirements are fair since gameplay is important, not eye candy. Warsow runs fluently even on older computers. The game offers six different multiplayer game types, a single player mode is not available. Depending on the gametype up to seven different weapons can be chosen. Power-ups like different types of shields and health items can be found aswell as a stronger type of ammunition for each of the collected weapons. Each gametype can be switched to instagib mode.

Warzone2100 Warzone2100 is a real-time strategy game, in many significant aspects compareable to Earth2150, it does contain some features that are unique. These include various radar technologies, a greater focus on artillery and counter-battery technologies, more frequent in-game cinematic updates as gameplay progress, as well as a different vehicle design method. The game was released in 1999 for both PC and Playstation® and was released under GPL in late 2004.
It offers a singleplayer campain and a network multiplayer mode.

Wesnoth Wesnoth is a very popular turn-based strategy game played on a hexgrid, with single-player campaigns as well as multi-player matches. A central philosophy in the design of the game is the KISS principle; for a new idea to be accepted, it should not complicate gameplay.
Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses. A unit's defense is based solely on the type of terrain it stands on, making terrain and placement of units very important. Different types of attacks (such as melee and ranged), weapon types (such as pierce and fire), and a day-night cycle that alternately favors lawful and chaotic units add to the strategy. Throughout the campaigns units can advance to higher level counterparts and become more powerful. Part of the fun of the game is developing a personalised army of advanced units as a campaign progresses.

World of Padman World of Padman is a colorful comic style first person shooter started as Q3 modification, which became a standalone game in April 2007. This fondly styled game demonstrates, how fast paced shooter action can be managed without blood and dark ambience.
